About Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
As we age, the endocrine system output changes and the important hormone levels in the body progressively decrease. Those hormone levels are responsible for keeping us young and vital. Hormone replacement therapy is used to combat these changes. The most common hormones that are treated with BHRT include: testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, DHEA and thyroid (the most commonly overlooked or under treated hormone condition).
The first step toward achieving your hormone and age management goals is to undergo a physical examination and testing to see if replacement is needed, and if so, to what level. Dr. Knott will personally review your test results then consult with you about your HRT options, your diet and exercise. A plan will then be developed to sensibly manage your aging process. In turn, if you follow your plan, you will see improved energy, stamina, libido, skin quality, memory, cognitive capacity, physical strength and appearance.
What Causes Hormone Imbalance?
The most important factor that determines how rapidly you age is related to your genetics. Obviously, you can’t choose your parents so that’s a constant over which you have no control. However, with Dr. Knott’s help, you can control your hormone levels, the way you eat and the amount of exercise you undertake. Other than genetics, there are other factors that can adversely affect your hormone status and those include the following:
Extreme amounts of stress
Poor diet
Lack of sleep
Lack of exercise
Taking synthetic hormones or other prescription drugs (chemicals)
- Chronic illness such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome
